The Natural Fibre Company has been spinning yarns since 1991, and the services we offer have grown dramatically since 2005 when managing director Sue Blacker and her family bought the company from the previous owners. When we moved the company from Lampeter in Wales to a new home in Cornwall at Launceston on the Devon border, it signalled the start of a minor revolution. Our first addition was automated scouring. In 2007 we introduced the first new worsted spinning facility for many generations in the UK, and in the summer of 2008 added an on-line shop and a dye plant. All our processes may be undertaken with Global Organic Textile Standard accreditation if required.
Welcome to Blacker Yarns, the home of 100% pure natural British hand knitting yarns.
Blacker Yarns and Blacker Designs were launched in 2008 as brands of The Natural Fibre Company (NFC), our specialist wool mill at Launceston on the Devon-Cornwall border. NFC makes all the yarns we use for the Blacker brand, which include ranges of luxurious and everyday yarns, our specialist British Breeds single breed yarns and a selection of knitting patterns.
The mill specialises in adding value to fleece produced by farmers, smallholders and crafters and turning it into high-quality knitting yarn which they can sell for themselves and generate a new or growing source of income from their flock. NFC also supports its customers in marketing their products, with a wide network of contacts and partners. Due to our expertise and flexible facilities, a growing part of our business is fast turn-around sample and trade orders for textile businesses, such as designers, knitwear producers and weavers, across the UK and Europe.
